1. Evaluation of Technology Learning
Evaluation - is a systematic determination of a subject's merit, worth and significance, using criteria governed by a set of standards.
Technology - the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry.
Learning - the acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, study or by being taught.
The impacts of new technologies in our lives:
- It makes our live more convenient and easy.
- It is time saver.
- It keep us updated to what is happening in our country as well as in foreign countries.
Reflection:
Therefore, evaluation of technology learning is when the learners are judge with a set of criteria, based on their learning through application of technology to their output. They were graded by project - based assessment. It is were students will be measured on how they apply on what they have learned in educational technology.
2. Higher Thinking Skills thru IT - based Projects.
(HOTS) Higher - Order Thinking Skills - belongs to the highest level of cognitive domain of a person. These levels are the Analyzing, Evaluating and Creating. HOTS involves in learning of complex judgmental skills such as critical thinking and problem solving.
IT - Based Projects - also known as web - based project, where students can create and post webpages on a given topic. It is a communication tool, such as students do a mutimedia presentation (with text, graphics, photos, audio narration, interviews, video clips and others.)
This lesson focuses on the fours types of IT - based Projects that effectively develop higher level thinking of a person. These projects make use of constructivist approach (benchmarking, make own ideas out of ideas from others). It contains the key elements of a constructivist approach namely: a. the teacher creating the learning environment; b. the teacher giving students the tools and facilities; c. the teacher facilitating the learning.
4 types of IT - based projects:
1. Resource - based projects - a type of project that gives emphasis than the product. example: Inquiry - based or discovery approach.
2.Simple Creations - Creativity here connotes planning, making, assembling, designing or building. It has the combination of the following skills: 1. Analyzing 2. Synthesizing 3. Promoting ( ability to sell new ideas).
3.Guided Hypermedia Projects - refers to self - made projects. Making multimedia presentations using powerpoint presentation or other communicative tools.
4. Web - Based Projects - students create and post their own webpages.
Reflection:
Making an IT - based projects will tests the higher - order thinking skills (HOTS) of a students. It helps the students to think even more in making a projects, it is also the way of expressing one's ideas and showing the uniqueness in each person. It caters how the student comprehend and understand the lesson and apply it thru IT - based projects.
3. Computer as ICT (Information and Communication Technology)
Computer - an electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program.
ICT - refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunications. similar to IT but focuses primarily on communication technologies. It includes the internet, wireless networks, cell phones and other communication mediums.
Learning + Computer Literacy = Amplified Learning
Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) was introduces using the principle of individualized learning through a positive climate that includes realism and appeal with drill exercise that uses color, music and animation.
Advantages of CAI:
- learn more and more rapidly
- privacy helps the shy and slow learners
- individual attention
- self - pacing allow students to proceed at their own pace
- freedom to experiment with different options
- great motivator
- one to one interaction
Disadvantages if CAI:
- expensive
- less socialization
- depends on the availability of the software, computer programs and internet
- high usage of electric power
Reflection:
Computer as an ICT has advantages and disadvantages, it depends to the students on how they use computer in terms of school requirements. Yet, it has a massive impacts on making the students to be more convenient and easy to make presentations and others. 21st century is really a fast pace in terms of technology, it continue to grow and develop even more to enhance what has done before.
